Once a series of Visual Indexes have been built, a summary, the Company Matrix, can be constructed. The Company Matrix summarizes and ranks the areas in which a company, organization or inventor participates.
On a Company Matrix, all the Visual Index titles are along the top and all participating companies, organizations or inventors are along the side. Each cell in the table contains a count of the number of patent or documents in the area. Very active areas are coded red. Less active areas are coded shades of blue.
Using the Company Matrix, it is easy to see where an organization is focused. If there are technology weaknesses in any area, it is also easy to see who can fill the weakness through partnering or acquisition. In the main tool set, a variety of sort capabilities make exploration of options easy.
